Yeng Keng Hotel is located at No. 362, Chulia Street, 10200 Penang within the Buffer Zone of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site. Chulia Street is consider as one of the oldest street in George Town of Penang.

No. 05 : The Business Card of Yeng Keng Hotel

Yeng Keng Hotel is considered one of the oldest surviving intact buildings in the historic enclave of Chulia Street, a vibrant component of the World Heritage Site of George Town.

Like many of the other buildings in the neighbourhood, it was originally built in the mid 1800's as a private residence. The Anglo Indian Bungalow belonged initially to Shaik Eusoffe Bin Shaik Latiff, an Indian Muslim Family and remains unique in Chulia Street for not being relegated to the rear of a row of shop-houses blocking its facade.

In 1879, Trustees of the Cantonese Club 'Yin Han Pit Shu' bought the building on behalf of the association, later donating it to the Trustees of the Straits Chinese British Association in 1939.

In the early 1900's, the building was leased to Yeng Keng Hotel. The conversion from residence into a hotel was the prevailing trend along the street, at the beginning of the 20th Century. Small places of lodgings that were conveniently reached from the harbour were in great demand as the traffic in the port grew. To add grandeur to the commercial establishment and to distinguish it from the rest of the buildings on the street, an impressive traditional Chinese Entrance Gate was constructed announcing entry to the 'Lodging House'.

Conservation and up-grading by the present owner, M/s. Hoo Kim Properties Sdn Bhd, was undertaken in 2009 with the renewed Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010.

SIGI's Bar & Grill on the Beach - Celebrates 1st Anniversary, Penang.

SIGI's Bar & Grill on the Beach (Formerly known as SIGI's By the Sea) is located within the perimeter of Golden Sands Resort, Penang by Shangri-La and celebrates its 1st Anniversary since reopening on 10th March 2010. In conjunction of the 1st Anniversary, Sigi's offers diners an exclusive anniversary set menu daily from 1st to 1st March 2011 except for Thursdays and Sundays to the both in-house resort guests and local residents.

The set meal offers a selection of appetisers, main courses and desserts consisting of best-selling and selected new dishes. This limited-time dinner is priced at RM100++ per set with a special anniversary offer of a complimentary set dinner for every set purchased (Buy One, Get One Free).

On the 3rd of March 2011 (i.e. Thursday), 2 of my friends and myself could not resist this special anniversary offer and also great value for money, so we decided to have our dinner there.

I was given to understand by one of staff that John Brock who is a New Zealander, have been appointed as Executive Sous Chef to head this SIGI's Bar & Grill on the Beach (SBG) and also responsible for the Western Culinary Offerings. With his extensive work experience and excellent skills especially in Western Cuisine, infuse new ideas to the overall Western Menu at Golden Sands Resort. He is not newcomer as he has culinary experience includes stints in the United Kingdom and France before joining Golden Sands Resort.
