Hardwicke House is one of the Oldest Heritage Home along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (Formerly known as Northam Road) and known as "Millionair's Row".

The house was erected on 3 acre of land at the turn of the 20th Century. It was originally owned by the Penang Club which was sold to Dr. WC Brown who was a Medical Doctor from Harley Street in 1887. He named it 'Hardwick House' after 'Hardwick Hall' in Derbyshire, England. 'Hardwick Hall' owned by the Duke of Devonshire. It was built and designed for the Bess of Hardwick who was at that time, after Queen Elizabeth, the most powerful and richest woman in England. Today it is an English Heritage Building managed by the National Trust. In 2006, it was selected by the BBC Documentary as one of the Britian's Best Buildings. 'Hardwick Hall' was used as Malfoy Manor in the book and movie 'Harry Porter and the Deathly Hallows'.

In 1905, the house was sold to Late Khaw Sim Kong of the Raja of Ranong family of Southern Thailand and also related to Late Khaw Sim Bee. During the 1st World War, the Building was sold to a Prominent Lawyer, Late Lim Cheng Ean who was later became a Legislative Councilor and the 1st Chinese Magistrate of the Straits Settlement. The last owner occupant of the house was his 3rd son, Late Lim Kean Siew, a well-known Penang Lawyer and Social Activist. There was a Tennis Court infront of the house and Horse Stable at the rear portion of the house.

 UPDATED ON 8th DECEMBER, 2011 (i.e. THUR)

As i was passing by the SOMMERZ HERITAGE BISTRO & HERITAGE COFFEE on the way to my office on 8th December 2011 (i.e. Thursday), i noticed that the whole building of Hardwicke House  was vacant. Later i learned that SOMMERZ HERITAGE BISTRO & HERITAGE COFFEE has been closed down for more than 3 months ago.

Sad to learn that SOMMERZ HERITAGE BISTRO & HERITAGE COFFEE has been closed down and I am going to miss the BBQ Baby Pork Ribs (Half Slab) - Sauteed Onions, Wedges & Coleslaw very much. :-(
